10 years of ACS

August 29th, 2018

Written by Katy Winship

As we're in celebratory mode this August, with it being our tenth birthday month, I thought I'd treat you to a meeting with some of our special ACS'ers. Other than giving regular readers a break from my blogs where I put the world to rights, here you can find out about some of our team - as we ask them about their journeys with ACS and the last ten years.

Sacha Jones, Sales Director

Has your role changed since you started here?
No- I just have more people in my team!

What does ACS means to you?
ACS and the people mean the world to me. I’m so proud of what we have achieved as a team together. Without our dedicated staff we would not be where we are today.

Who were you 10 years ago?
10 years ago I was selling in the office whilst rocking my baby girl in her pram with Richard Storey setting up the business!

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I would like to see myself still working as a Director here at ACS and watching the company continue to grow from strength to strength.

Jordanna Tait, Account Executive

What does ACS mean to you?
ACS is like a family and will be with you every step of the way - this is something I wouldn’t not want to be a part of! It has definitely made me into a better person as I have learnt so much about myself whilst working here. I have overcome a few personal fears which has helped me for life!

Tell us about your team.
My team is the smallest in the business, but definitely the strongest...

Who were you 10 years ago?
10 years ago I was a teenager that couldn’t wait to leave school and get up in the air and sell perfumes and alcohol, but this soon changed when I studied aviation and found out it wasn’t for me. I couldn’t think of doing anything but selling pens & paper now!

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Still part of the ACS family and being even more successful.

Simon Walsh, Operations Manager

Has your role changed since you started here?
Starting ACS as a member of our telesales team, I swiftly took on the dual role of Sales and E-commerce Manager before moving over to our Operations Team to take up the role of Operations Manager, looking after both the Purchasing and E-Commerce teams respectively.

What does ACS mean to you?
I adopt the same mentality to ACS as I do to my own personal life. Whenever we do something positive as a company, I feel a genuine sense of pride. In the same token, should we have to overcome any issues, I feel personally responsible to ensure that these are resolved to the highest standard possible. I wake up each morning with the same desire to assist our progression that I had 10 years ago and I am sure that I will be saying the same sentence 10 years from now.

Tell us about your team.
Both teams have grown in both stature and importance since 2008. The Purchasing team are central to all customer orders and their knowledge and experience has helped us to secure a vast suite of low supplier pricing. Our E-Commerce offering has propelled into the limelight over recent years with most of our contracted customers choosing to trade through our webstore or Punchout offerings. We now trade over 50% of our customer orders through our electronic channels and continue to break new records month on month.

Who were you 10 years ago? I would like to think that I haven’t changed in personality since starting at ACS 10 years ago. I have always tried to be very personable and loyal throughout my career and my experiences at ACS have only helped to bolster this mindset.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I still have the same hunger and desire to progress at ACS and as such have a short-term ambition to become a Director within the business. However, I am very much of the opinion that you must never reach a certain level and then look behind you. For ACS to continue it’s rapid growth, we cannot stop progressing as individuals – I hope to continue doing this in 10 years time and beyond.

Michelle Houman, Cash Collections

Has your role changed since you started here?
My Role is the same now as it was when I first started over 3.5 years ago.

What does ACS means to you?
ACS has a great family feel, there is a great sense of community. Our work parties are always very memorable and a lot of effort goes into making it an enjoyable environment for all the staff.

Tell us about your team.
My team is small, there are 3 of us in Cash Collections and we all collect cash for different areas of our sales department. I love working with my colleagues, there is a real sense of team and we work well together.

Who you were 10 years ago?
10 years ago I was 22 and had just started working at Audi Bradford. I was there for 6.5 years. I was out partying most weekends in Leeds without a care in the world.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
10 years from now seems ages away but seen as the last 10 years have flown by I’m sure it will be here before I know it! Perhaps I will still be at ACS, I have no reason not to, it’s a great place to work. I’m hoping by then I will have a family of my own too!

Chris Campbell, Head of Purchasing

Tell us who you are and what you do Chris.
I have been in the IT industry for around 8 years now. Working in Sales, Support, Service but mainly Purchasing.I manage the process of procuring products for our end users and also for our internal use be it an ink cartridge or ream of paper to a fully managed network solution and everything in-between.I also help out with the technical side; be it passing exams for accreditations for the business or with our clients helping them to get the correct product that fits their needs.

Has your role changed since you started here?
My role has changed so much over the last 6 years, I started at ACS in 2012 as a Buyer in the Products team, since then I have progressed to Hardware Buyer and to Service Delivery Manager for our Tech Sales team and again on to Head of Purchasing for the business.

What does ACS mean to you?
ACS has a family atmosphere where everyone’s opinion counts, I can’t say enough good things about working here from the fantastic incentives we have to the ACS overseas golf trip, which I am the current winner - much to the annoyance of a few golfers here!!

Tell us about your team.
The team consists of 5 members including myself. We have Jess and Charles that look after the core lines and specialist products, along with Henry and Bridget that deal with Hardware items.I work with a great team that have a fantastic mix of knowledge over our whole product range.

Who were you were 10 years ago?
Wow 10 years ago I was not in the IT industry, I worked for a Maintenance company driving a wagon up and down the country gritting in winter and maintaining grounds and lighting in the summer months.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
What can I say. In 10 years who knows, maybe watching my son playing for Leeds United, maybe watching my daughter on stage in the West End, who knows…
