Our predictions for 2019

It’s finally the end of 2018- what a year! This one will go down in history, but probably for all the wrong reasons. After a roller-coaster year we’re looking forward to the future and a fresh new start. As we did in 2017, we've been looking into our crystal balls to bring you our predictions for 2019...

Workplace equality

Next year we will see Millennials being outnumbered by Generation Z, meaning that 32% of the global population will have (GASP) been born after 1995. They are a generation that will never know what it’s like to grow up without the internet. And as we have seen, with being well-connected comes a thirst for equality and fairness.
In 2019 we hope to see more and more female business leaders as businesses re-evaluate their equality policies.

Remote working

With many businesses utilising cloud-based storage more and more employees are working from home than ever before. It’s no longer a necessity to go into the office. We now know that staff can be more productive and can save time on commuting when they work from home. This also enables them to spend valuable time with loved ones.
Businesses are increasingly recognising that when employees are entrusted, they feel empowered and are more likely to stay loyal and work harder for the company.

Dark blue

Blue will be big news in 2019. As well as being crowned lucky colour of the year in Chinese horoscope philosophy blue is due to make a big splash in the interior fashion world.

Healthy living

As well as blue, we’ll all be going green with not just looking after our planet more but also looking after our bodies. I predict with the health food market rapidly growing (for example the dairy alternative market) the popularity of veganism will also grow, the fitness market will grow and heck, even our walls will be growing- these living walls are set to be the next big thing!

Alcohol consumption will lower

With the world changing and attitudes shifting, as discussed, we may find that less people will spend their hard-earned cash on drinking. Instead, we think people will seek out new activities that involve spending quality time with friends and family without getting Squiffy.

With Gen Z spearheading the movement we have already seen more activities that used to be associated with children (as predicted last year) becoming increasingly popular with adults, for example; crazy golf, trampoline parks and adult ball pools.

The high-street will catch the Millennium bug

In fashion circles it’s a known thing that fashion cycles have a “20-year rule” which means that something that is fashionable now will be fashionable in two decades time. If this is true it should be out with the 90’s trend and in with the noughties... Cue sights of the low-rise jean with high riding thongs, grown men riding around on micro-scooters shouting “pukka” and the unwelcome return of cargo pants!

The end of Brexit

Dare I mention the B word? We are yet to know what affect Brexit will have and if it will ever happen even. But it is likely there will be an economical wobble once it does happen (or not- who knows!). What we do know is that there will be an end to it and we can all go back to not judging our peers on their remainer/ leaver views.

Employee happiness

With revolutionary tech businesses such as Google and Netflix offering unlimited holiday leave other businesses are beginning to follow suit. A recent study by PwC found that after career progression, salary, and development, employee benefits are the fourth most important factor when choosing an employer so businesses are starting to take notice.

As employee perks companies such as Perkbox are being undertaken by more businesses we predict 2019 will see more companies ramping up their employee perks and benefits.
